OEMS has revised and is publishing an updated EMS Virginia Data Dictionary (version 3.3.0) along with a version change document..

The version change document attached to this article (Version changes from 3.2.1 to 3.3.0) documents the changes made to this new version from the previous version.  Even though this is a 16 page document, a large majority of the updates and changes were made to bring the Virginia Data Dictionary (3.3.0) more in line with the National NEMSIS v3 standards (the NEMSIS Data Dictionary version 3.4.0 Build 150302 was used for reference).  While this may seem like a lot of updates/changes, it is a necessary 1st step towards stabilizing and standardizing the system which is now going to allow OEMS to begin to focus on and address a majority of issues reported over the last year.  Please review the Version Updates from 3.2.1 to 3.3.0 document along with the Data Dictionary.  If there are any questions, please send those over to support (support@oemssupport.kayako.com).

The timeline for Data Dictionary changes to be implemented will be as follows:

  • Data Dictionary Release Date: 04-15-2016
  • Start Implementation on: 06-01-2016
  • Target date of completion: 06-15-2016

The 45 day window between release date and the start implementation date is to allow all vendors and agencies the opportunity to review this document and contact OEMS regarding any questions or perceived discrepancies/issues.

As other related documents are updated within the next 45 to 90 days, additional notices will be sent out.

During the 15 day window between the start of implementation and the completion of implementation, any updates that need to be made to the states system to align it with the new Data Dictionary will be made.  We do not anticipate that this will cause any issues with a providers’ ability to enter in records directly into the states VAv3 (Elite) system or impact 3rd party vendor imports.

As a note, Agencies may still submit above and beyond this minimum dataset if they desired to collect further information on an agency, locality, or regional level.  VAv3 (Elite) will collect all NEMSIS v3 data elements.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as we begin the process of stabilizing, improving, and enhancing agency functionality in the VAv3 (Elite) system.
