EMS Data Quality Report – April 2019
Posted by Bryan Hodges, Last modified by Bryan Hodges on 10 June 2019 09:29 AM

The Division of Trauma and Critical Care within the Virginia Department of Health, Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) has just released the EMS Data Quality Report for April 2019.  This report is generated each month and provided to the Director of OEMS, the Division of Regulations and Compliance, and the Rescue Squad Assistance Fund (RSAF) Grants program.

Please note the format of this report has changed.  Additional qualifiers regarding validity in the form of two questions have been added:

  • Question 1: Has the agency submitted all required demographics data?
  • Question 2: Are the values submitted by the agency allowed in the Virginia Data Dictionary?

If the answer to either question for an agency is “No”, the agencies average monthly validity score is automatically set to 0.00.  If the answers to both questions are “Yes”, then the average monthly validity score displayed is based on the records submitted for the referenced month.  The attached PDF contains links to other articles explaining what agencies need to do if they are listed as "No" on either question.

Both questions are based on the EMS Minimum Dataset and Quality Standards found in the Virginia Data Dictionary.  EMS agencies are required to submit data based on this standard per the Code of Virginia (regulation § 32.1-116.1) and EMS regulation (12VAC5-31-560).  While agencies are permitted to report above and beyond this minimum dataset, any additional data must use established NEMSIS 3 standards.  For more information on this, please refer to page 9 of the Virginia Data Dictionary located at the following website:
