The Division of Trauma and Critical Care within the Virginia Department of Health, Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) has just released the EMS Data Quality Report for August 2019. This report is generated each month and provided to the Director of OEMS, the Division of Regulations and Compliance, and the Rescue Squad Assistance Fund (RSAF) Grants program.
Please note the format of this report has changed. Additional qualifiers regarding validity in the form of two questions have been added:
Question 1: Has the agency submitted all required demographics data?
Question 2: Are the values submitted by the agency allowed in the Virginia Data Dictionary?
If the answer to either question for an agency is “No” for the month reported (in this case August 2019), the agencies average monthly validity score is automatically set to 0.00. If the answers to both questions are “Yes” for the month reported, then the average validity score by month displayed is based on the records submitted for the last 6 months.
Agencies listed as "No" on Question 1 can refer to the following article containing two spreadsheets listing all of the demographic data items still missing by agency:
By using this list and the FAQ published in February (use below link), agencies should be able to enter in the remaining missing items.

If any agency still has issues understanding what is missing or how to update the required demographics information, please contact OEMS support.
For those agencies listed as “No” on Question 2, OEMS has created an additional spreadsheet that contains a list of all invalid values submitted by agencies during the month of August. That spreadsheet can be found at:
Questions 1 and 2 are based on the EMS Minimum Dataset and Quality Standards found in the Virginia Data Dictionary. EMS agencies are required to submit data based on this standard per the Code of Virginia (regulation § 32.1-116.1) and EMS regulation (12VAC5-31-560). While agencies are permitted to report above and beyond this minimum dataset, any additional data must use established NEMSIS 3 standards. For more information on this, please refer to page 9 of the Virginia Data Dictionary located at the following website:
